Objetivos

This Project aims to identify and explain the keys to the economic geography of Western Mediterranean Europe in the long run from an economic history perspective. The main hypothesis is that the current economic landscape has been the result of a previous and complex process, strongly influenced by economic geography forces and history. However, and despite the enormous changes occurred from 1850 to the present, more continuities than ruptures may be observed in the economic landscape. In this sense, we argue that deep forces, particularly institutions and geography, have had a permanent influence in the spatial distribution of regional incomes
